An 82-year-old man has been killed overnight in Rockhampton, in central Queensland, while crossing a road after celebrating his birthday at a local leagues club.
The man and his wife were crossing Lion Creek Road at Wandal when he was struck by a four-wheel drive just after 7:00pm AEST.
The couple were holding hands, and although the man's wife was pulled to the ground, she was not hit by the car.
A trained nurse at the scene tried to revive the man but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
In a separate incident, a 49-year-old motorcyclist died in hospital last night after being hit by a car in Brisbane.
Police believe the driver of the car drove through a red light on Wynnum Road at Tingalpa yesterday afternoon causing the crash.
